Power to the People Kits
In an attempt to continue addressing the pervasive issues highlighted by the DIY-A Survey, DIY-A has developed the following, Power to the People Kits. Ranging from issues such as food scarcity, clean drinking water, and lack of access to power and electricity, these kits aim to address these issues in a simple, sustainable, yet effective manner. The distribution of these kits will be dependent on the issues faced by the survey respondents, and where necessary, all three kits will be distributed. In time, we hope to not only finesse these kits further, but also grow the enterprise to account for, and provide clean technological solutions to other pervasive issues experienced by the people in the South-West Nigerian region. A description of the contents of each kit can be found below, along with a bit about the issue they seek to address!

The SolarSprout Kit
The SolarSprout Kit presents an all-in-one solution to combat the twin-issues of food scarcity and access to electricity. It includes a solar-powered cooker that consumers can use to cook their food. Following which, it will also include an in-built distillation mechanism to collect the condensed liquid produced during cooking to be stored away in a decanter. Along with the solar-powered cooker, the kit will contain a perforated pipe with small outlets that can be connected to the decanter where the water is stored. Once the rig has been successfully set up, it doubles as a clean-energy cooker, along with a drip-irrigation system, complete with fruit and vegetable seeds that are native to the South-West region of Nigeria, facilitating a comprehensive agricultural and food preparation kit.
The DrinkClean Kit
The DrinkClean Kit aims to address a myriad of issues pertaining to clean drinking water that are often faced by rural communities in and around Lagos. The kit will contain around 1000 water purification tablets, that operate by killing or lowering total bacterial content while also eliminating algae and other common impurities. These water purification tablets would work in tandem with Filtration Canisters that can be used to further purify the water by lowering mercury content, and even addressing the issue of minute chlorine contamination that may linger following the use of the tablet. Also to be included in the kit are educational resources in the form of step-by-step guides on how to use the products along with a guide on how they work. The guides will be distributed in both English and Hausa.
The SolarCell Kit
The SolarCell Kit addresses another seminal infrastructural issue faced by the people in and around South-West Nigeria: electricity, and along with it, access to light. By including only three items, the SolarCell kit aims to ensure adequate light for a small to medium sized household through the night. Consisting of a small-scale solar panel, to be connected to a few sets of rechargeable batteries, the kit aims to provide a reliable source of electricity storage over the course of the day that can then be used for any battery operated device at night. Concurrently, the kit will also contain Solar Operated Lights which, similarly to the batteries, will store energy over the course of the day and will come on at night to ensure a brighter, well-lit evening!
